There are two types of people in the world: the less is more and the more is more .
I don’t get all of you who fall into the less is more category – not at all. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those freak shows you see on TV who have so many newspapers in their home they have to actually create a walking path to get from the kitchen to the bath room. In fact, my husband often accuses me of getting rid of too much stuff including items he says are sentimental. But do I really need to keep every single birthday card my children receive – even the one from our dentist? You be the judge.
My point is that when it comes to something you love – in my case jewelry – more is for more.
Alexis Bittar is a jewelry designer I just can’t stop buying. The native New Yorker has been on the fashion scene since the mid-80′s when he began selling his hand-sculpted jewelry on the streets of Soho.
Since then, he has continued creating collections of earrings, necklaces and bracelets using carved Lucite and semi-precious gems.
His jewelry has appeared on Sex and the City, on the runway for Burberry’s and in ad campaigns for Estee Lauder.
I like to buy pieces from his collection from a little local boutique that doesn’t even have a website. But since you don’t live here, I guess I should tell you about TWIST. It’s a yummy store in Portland, Oregon which also carries Alexis Bittar and does have a web site. You can find it at www.twistonline.com. TWIST not only carries Bittar but also collections of many unique jewelry artists found through out the country. It’s quite a treat to surf that site.
Bittar’s line is not cheap. Prices range anywhere from $100 to $545. But in the more is more world, who’s looking at the price? My husband is, I guess. I mean maybe it is less expensive to keep that crummy old card from the dentist, but it’s not nearly as pretty.
