Coversations of a Family Photo

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Me:  “Denise, can you take a quick Easter family photo with my I-phone?”

Mother-In-Law:  “I’m not sure how to work it.  Do I click, here?”

Me:  “Yup.  That’s where you click.”

David:  “Latham, take your hand off your eye.”

Me:  “Latham, take your hand off your eye.”

Latham:  “NO!  I ONLY WANT ONE EYE SHOWING!”

Me:  “Okay, let me hold him.  Latham, take your hand off your eye.”

Latham:  “NO!”

Latham:  “I ONLY WANT ONE EYE SHOWING.”

Me:  “Fine.  You can cover your eye, but you have to smile.

Me:  Did you get it, Denise?

Mother-In-Law:  “Oh yeah.  I got it.  I got all of it.”

Husbandism #35

David:  “I haven’t taken out the trash in my underwear for awhile, but it’s warming up.  I mean, if it’s 30 or above – I’ll take a run at it.”

My husband saying how happy he is spring is here so he doesn’t actually have to put on clothes to roll the trash to the curb at night.  And yes, he’s been caught in his tighty-whities several times by our neighbors.  And no, he doesn’t care.

The One About Easter

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

Neither of you could believe it with your baby blue eyes

But grandma’s backyard held a most colorful surprise.

Eggs sprinkled in the grass in yellow, green, and blue

Filled with special treats packed especially for you.

And the baskets you carried were  big, but not big enough

To hold all of your goodies and the rest of your fun stuff.

And the bags in the yard held something special for you boys

Such as trucks, cars, and buses and all sorts of fun toys.

But the best part about this incredibly special day

How excited you got searching for every single egg.

Every one you discovered was as thrilling as your first

You both were so happy, I thought you might burst.

Your dad and I had so much fun watching you and your brother

It was an amazing Easter morning – better than any other.

HAPPY EASTER!

Happy Easter!

Husbandism #34

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

David:  “I mean, I wish I had her body.  But without the boobs. ”

The comment my husband added to the conversation while discussing tennis player Serena Williams.

Toddler Talk

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

Ms. Joy:  “Reichen, let’s welcome your mom as today’s preschool mystery reader.  Can you introduce her to everyone?”

Reichen:  “Her name is mommy.”

Ms. Joy:  “Yes, she’s  your mommy.  But she’s not our mommy.  What’s her name?  What does your daddy call her?

Reichen:  “My daddy calls her Sunk.”

Me:  “Oh, sorry.  That’s a nickname David calls me.”

Ms. Joy:  “Oh.  Reichen what’s your mom’s name?  What name does your dad call her?”

Reichen:  “Darlin’?”

Ms. Joy:  “No, Reichen.  What’s your mom’s name?  What name does your dad call her?”

Reichen:  “Bubbers?”

Me:  “Um, sorry.  David rarely, if ever, calls me by my actual name.  Reichen, can you tell all your friends my name is Tasha?”

The incredibly embarassing conversation that happened at Reichen’s preschool this morning.  And if I wouldn’t have stopped it, it could have gone on forever.  David has a million nicknames for me.  A million of them.

30 for 30 Challenge – Day 30

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

Drum roll please….   HERE IT IS – my 30th outfit for Kendi’s 30 for 30 Remix Challenge.

Of course, I wish the ensemble were a little more exciting and I wish my pose didn’t look so incredibly awkward, but to quote my hubby when he never knows exactly what to say next - ”it is what it is.”

Ann Taylor Loft t-shirt, Gap vest, Gap jeans, DSW boots, TJ Maxx scarf, Michael Kors watch

And here are the 3 stinky boys behind the camera.  David snapped every. single. shot. and he says he had fun doing it.  But when I asked him if he wanted to do it every. single. day. so I could start my own style blog, he said, “Um, not so much.”

I hope you enjoyed following my 30 for 30 Remix Challenge as much as I did doing it.  And I really appreciate all the fun and thoughtful comments everyone wrote every day.  Thank you.  You all know how to make a girl feel good.

Starting now, you will be returned to regular 3 Stinky Boys and Me programing.

I know you missed David’s husbandisms.  I know you did.  Admit it.

30 for 30 Challenge – Day 14

Monday, February 14th, 2011

When David and I were invited to a fundraiser for Children’s Mercy Hospital a few weeks ago, we jumped at the chance to attend the event.  We felt honored to support the state of the art Kansas City medical facility since just months ago, the doctors and nurses who work there helped us through one of the most difficult times in our lives.

You may remember earlier this year, our 2-year-old son, Latham suffered from severe diarrhea which caused him to rapidly lose more than 10 pounds – a third of his total body weight.  We were terrified when our doctor told us we had to take our baby to Children’s Mercy for tests which included cystic fibrosis and celiac disease.  (If you want to learn more about Latham’s chronic condition, you can click here , here, here, and here.)  But Children’s Mercy Hospital gave us the answers we needed; the answers no one else could; the answers which ultimately helped heal our son.  And the doctors and nurses interacted with us in the most caring, thoughtful and considerate way possible which made the ordeal we were going through manageable.

Our son is now healthy.  But so many other children are not.  And it’s through fundraisers, such as the one we attended Saturday night, that allows children all over the Midwest to receive the healthcare they so desperately need, even if they can’t afford it.

So I hope you’ll forgive me when I tell you that I broke Kendi’s 30 for 30 Remix Challenge rules for the fundraising gala.  I confess I popped on my party dress – which was not in my 30 for 30 wardrobe – and even bought a new pair of earrings for the festivities.  David and I had a great time and I am happy to report the event raised well over a million dollars.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

BCBG dress, Dillards earrings, Dillards bracelet, Kenneth Cole ring, Target pantyhose, DSW shoes, OPI nail polish, David flowers, Jill the best hairdresser and friend in the world who did my gorgeous hair, Christiane did my beautiful makeup.

Husbandism #33

David:  “It’s like walking around with your boob under your armpit - that’s what it’s like to have balls.”

What my husband said when I rolled my eyes at him after he ‘ajusted’ himself while walking into Walmart.

What my husband said after seeing what I wore to the gym today.

The First Day of Preschool

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

It’s your first day of school and you’re so excited to get there.

You jump into your jeans and try to comb your own hair.

Blueberry yogurt is for breakfast, but you barely take a bite.

And forget about the toast - you won’t eat it without a fight.

So you hop in the car followed by your dad, brother, and me.

It’s a really special day and we want to celebrate as a family.

The new friends you’re about to make is what we discuss during the drive.

And you say you’re going to wear your backpack as soon as we arrive.

Ms. Joy is your teacher and she welcomes you with a smile.

She says, ”This is your cubby – it’s the one right here on the aisle.”

You tell her you’re excited to start preschool today.

And two seconds later, you dismiss us with a quick wave.

“See you in a couple hours,” I say as I give you a big hug.

And as you give me a kiss Ms. Joy says, ”Please, sit on the rug.”

And suddenly, the door closes and you’re off on a new adventure.

I’m so proud of you Reichen, it’s a memory I’ll always treasure.

David:   “I mean, hot doesn’t matter when your personality sucks.”

The real reason my husband believes is behind the break up of movie stars Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson.

A Picture Perfect Day

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Josh and Jenny, the dynamic duo from Solar Photographers, have done it again.  I just love how the talented and charismatic couple captures my 3 stinky boys and me in such a fun way no other photographer can.  Here’s a peek at a few of my favorites from our photo shoot a couple weeks ago.  Enjoy!
