Socks Need Love Too

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

I haven’t worn knee highs since 6th grade, but I’ve decided I’ve neglected the sock sub-section of my hosiery collection for far too long. And so, I’m breaking them out with my boots this season.

Ta da!!!

Another trend I’m trying:  the baby cat eye.  And I’ve discovered the best liquid eyeliner for it is by Urban Decay.  I should know. I’ve tried them all.

Seriously.

30 for 30 Challenge – Day 30

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

Drum roll please….   HERE IT IS – my 30th outfit for Kendi’s 30 for 30 Remix Challenge.

Of course, I wish the ensemble were a little more exciting and I wish my pose didn’t look so incredibly awkward, but to quote my hubby when he never knows exactly what to say next – “it is what it is.”

Ann Taylor Loft t-shirt, Gap vest, Gap jeans, DSW boots, TJ Maxx scarf, Michael Kors watch

And here are the 3 stinky boys behind the camera.  David snapped every. single. shot. and he says he had fun doing it.  But when I asked him if he wanted to do it every. single. day. so I could start my own style blog, he said, “Um, not so much.”

I hope you enjoyed following my 30 for 30 Remix Challenge as much as I did doing it.  And I really appreciate all the fun and thoughtful comments everyone wrote every day.  Thank you.  You all know how to make a girl feel good.

Starting now, you will be returned to regular 3 Stinky Boys and Me programing.

I know you missed David’s husbandisms.  I know you did.  Admit it.

30 for 30 Challenge – Day 29

Mustard is such a hot hue right now.  And I’m kind of obsessed with it.  Every time I go shopping, I find myself immediately drawn to the yellow-colored clothing and accessories.  But when I selected this mustard cardigan as one of my 30 pieces for Kendi’s Remix Challenge, I was a little nervous about it.  I mean, I just didn’t think it would go with much.

How wrong I was.

This cardigan goes with everything.  Everything.  After nearly 30 days of wearing 30 items, I now consider this cardigan a neutral color.

Try it.  You’ll like it.

30 for 30 Challenge – Day 21

When I discovered this belt buckle bracelet on the table of a street vendor in New York City, I had to have it.  And after speaking with the young lady selling the beautiful bauble, I was thrilled to learn she was also the designer and artist of the entire collection.  It was her dream, she told me, to own her own store and eventually have her jewelry line sold in major retail stores throughout the country such as Nordstroms.  So she packed her bags and moved to New York from a little town in Iowa where she was born and raised, so she could make jewelry all night and sell it all day because she said while she smirked, “If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere.”

I love those kinds of stories.   I hope she makes it.  I think she will.

30 for 30 Challenge – Day 16

I adore all the romantic ruffles that have been making waves in fashion.  Smaller details can make all the difference, so consider giving your casual cotton and easy knits a modern update.  An outfit that would otherwise feel flat comes to life thanks to little extras that add visual interest.  Tiny elements of texture on a T-shirt, or even a menswear button-down with a tuxedo like ruffle trim, can offer your everyday wear some flair.

Try it!  You’ll like it!

30 for 30 Challenge – Day 15

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

I love my jean jacket.  It’s a classic piece that will never go out of style.  I mean, there’s a reason the one in my closet I’ve owned for more than 5 years still looks modern – not much has changed in the denim department since then.  People have been wearing ’em for decades: think James Dean, Madonna, and Ralph Lauren all rocking the classic version.  Like the LBD, the jean jacket is a must have item for your clothing collection.

30 for 30 Challenge – Day 10

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

I love this sweater.  The color and the ruffle makes me happy.  And believe it or not, it goes with everything.  If  you don’t have a cardigan in your closet this color, you’ve got to get one.  You’ll love it!

30 for 30 Challenge – Day 9

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

I picked this dress for the 30 for 30 Remix for a reason.  You see, I consider it a date night dress – one I would wear with heels, red nails, and a pearl necklace.  I bought it about a month ago on sale at Dillards and planned to wear it on Valentine’s with David for dinner.  But when I decided to participate in Kendi’s Remix Challenge, I wondered how many casual ways I could wear my fancy, frock.

My first attempt:  a dose of denim, a belt, tights and I figured a cute pair of biker boots  would add an instant everyday-casual to my dress.  I think it works.

You could also toss on a black blazer and you’ve got business dressy in an instant.  A little edgier than a black blazer, a little more sophisticated than its motorcycle jacket counterpart, a leather topper could look sleek and cool, too.  And, trusty cardigan is also just the thing to add a sweet, bookish vibe to your cocktail dress.

My Husband is Pumped This Post is Not About Him

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

He can’t take it anymore David told me while we watched our two toddlers ride their tricycles in circles on the driveway.  He said three consecutive posts about him are three too many.  After I told him my blog does not revolve around him, thank you very much, (Okay, actually it does revolve around him – him, my two toddlers, and me which is obviously why named the blog 3 Stinky Boys and Me.  But honestly, he was a little irritated so the quicker I could end the conversation, the better.)  I told him he’d been bumped from the blog today for an amazing skin care line I just discovered.

Boots has been the best selling beauty brand in the United Kingdom for 75 years.  Women there expect not only a top of the line hypo-allergenic product, but an affordable one.  Boots finally brought its entire collection to the United States and you can find it at Target.

glycolicpeel

I really like the No 7 skin care line from Boots.  I’ve never tried a Glycolic Peel before, but I can’t imagine one working better than this one which is $24.99.  I’ve only used the peel 4 times so far, and I swear my skin is softer and more toned.  After my results with the product, I couldn’t wait to try other Boots products.

micro-derm

A good micro-dermabrasion is hard to find and believe me when I say I’ve tried them all.  I really like this one by Boots.  With a dime sized squirt, you can rub away all that dry skin that makes your face look so dull.  The micro-dermabrasion also smooths your skin which allows you to apply make-up better.  You can buy it at Target for $14.99.

I love the skin care line so much I had to try the No7 make-up collection too.  I don’t like matte lipstick.  Not only do I think it makes ladies look older, I don’t like how it feels on my lips.  I’ve looked the world over looking for the perfect sheer lipstick and I think I’ve found it.  The No7 Sheer Temptation Lipstick is lovely.  The sheer wash of color is so easy to wear and the effect is really modern and pretty. Your lips will be gorgeously glossy and wonderfully hydrated but not at all sticky.  And here’s the best part:  it’s only $9.99.

Boots has other lines in addition to the No7 collection I adore so much and I plan to try them all.  My next purchase will be from the Boots Apothecary collection where every single product is packaged in reusable vintage style glass bottles which are so pretty.

Have you tried Boots?  What’s your favorite product?
