Happy 5th Birthday, Reichen!

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

Today you are five and I can barely believe it

Where has the time gone – it just happened so quick.

So to celebrate, this weekend we had a really big party

We invited all your friends and you thought it was gnarly.

We met everyone at  Monkey Bizness, a really fun place

You jumped in all the bouncy houses with a smile on your face.

Liam, Hayden, and Dayton were all there

And Lexy, Abby, and Kendall with the golden hair.

Dylan, Lydia, and Noah came to your party too

And Caleb, and Claire said ‘Happy Birthday’ to you.

A Transformer theme you wanted with colors blue and red

“Optimus and Bumblebee would make me happy,” you said.

 transformer birthday cake

Nina made your cake and a small one for Latham, too

And you both blew out the candles – it was so exciting for you.

You opened all your presents and got lots of fun toys

Transformers, cars, and a rocket – all perfect for boys.

You had such a fun day and so did your dad and me

Happy Birthday Reichen, we are as proud as could be.

HAPPY 5TH BIRTHDAY, REICHEN!

A Party for Latham

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

It was a party for monsters you said that you wanted

So we invited a few friends and got it all started.

There were balloons and streamers and signs of all sorts

And a pinata filled with candy swinging on the back porch.

Nina made you a monster cake with his arms in the air

And after blowing out the candles we cut him up to share.

I made your friends masks and you thought they were great

You asked if you could wear one – you just couldn’t wait.

It was such a fun party, my birthday boy of 3

Thank you so much for celebrating it with me!

Birthday Wishes

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

When you open your eyes,

 After making a wish,

And everyone you’ve ever wished for,

Is blowing out the candles with you,

You don’t mind turning 36,

At all.

Four Reichen

Happy Birthday to you my most extraordinary little boy

Four years ago today you brought me incredible joy.

I couldn’t wait to meet you when I realized I was pregnant

I counted down the days including every single second.

The day you were born you made me a mother

A gift so rare I will never receive it from another.

You’ve changed and you’ve grown so much these four years

You wiggle your eyebrows and try to do the same with your ears.

You now like to draw and we practice all your numbers

And you’re such a big boy you no longer need diapers.

You’re super well spoken and know all your colors

You love to play cars and even share them with others.

You can brush your own teeth and always ask me to read

And when you laugh really hard you gasp when you breathe.

You weigh a whopping 40 pounds and your favorite color is pink

And you giggle like crazy when you show me how you wink.

Everywhere we go, people say you look just like your daddy

And you think it’s really funny when you smack your own fanny.

I can’t believe, Reichen Micheal, that you’re four years old today

And your dad and I just want to wish you a very happy birthday.

There Once Was a Girl Named Tasha

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

There once was a girl named Tasha.

Who flew to DC with her momma.

It was her 60th birthday;

They ate cupcakes that were gourmet.

And toured the amazing home of Obama.

Happy Birthday to You

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

We wanted to wait until the day you arrived

When they said “it’s a boy,” we were super surprised.

You were such a big baby, you weighed nearly 10 pounds

With blue eyes, brown hair, and hardly ever a frown.

We held you and loved you in our arms so tight

We never put you down;  not at all that first night.

When Reichen came for a visit, he was  only a year and a half

We said, “Here’s you new brother;”  he then kissed you and laughed.

You’ve grown up so much since that very first day

You walk and you talk and you can’t wait to horseplay.

You now sleep in a twin bed and eat taco meat

You’re learning to count and are quite an athlete.

I can’t believe time has passed, it has happened so quickly

You’re two years today, which just doesn’t seem likely.

It’s our honor to love you, you’re such an amazing boy

Happy Birthday Latham Mason, you’re our pride and our joy.

I Just Turned 35. And it’s Weird.

Monday, December 14th, 2009

On the inside, I’m 17.  On the outside, I’m not.   I just turned 35.  And it’s weird.

It’s weird that I’m married.  It’s weird that I have kids.  And It’s weird that I own a home.  It’s weird that I have gray hair.  It’s weird that I have varicose veins.  And It’s weird that I have wrinkles.

But what’s really weird about this whole turning 35 thing: my brain. It’s nearly 2 decades behind my body.  If you were to ask how old I am, 17 waits on the tip of my tongue ready to reply.  I’m not sure why my brain is stuck at 17, but it is.  And it’s shocked every morning when my 35 year old self shows up in the mirror to remind it otherwise.

Don’t get me wrong; I love my life.  I wouldn’t trade my 35 year old self now for my 17 year old self then for anything.  To me, I guess it’s simply odd that I seem to be aging on the outside and not on the inside.  It appears, however, that I’m not the only one.

I asked my mom how old she feels and even though she turns 60 in September, she says she feels 35.  I asked my 90 year old grandma how old she feels, and she said 60.  When I asked my 32 year old husband (yes, I married a younger man), he replied 25.

What is it, do you think, that stops our internal clock from ticking?

And more importantly, has it happened to you?
