If You Knew It Was the Last Time
If you knew it was the last time, when it was the last time,
what would you say?
He didn’t know, my dad.
He didn’t get to say, what he always meant to say,
to his big brother.
He only said
goodbye.
And hung up the phone.
And it was,
goodbye.
My dad’s brother has passed.
And I wonder, if my dad knew
it would be the last time, when it was the last time,
would he have said, what he should have said
every time
for the first time.

Hi Tasha – I am so sorry to hear the news about your uncle. You and your family will be in my thoughts.

it is so true. i am sorry to hear about the loss of your uncle. you never know when you won’t have an opportunity to say something. John mayer sings about it well.

I think we generally take it for granted that no one we care about will be taken from us suddenly, that we won’t have at least a chance to say “good-bye”. But something like this reminds us that often this isn’t the case due to an illness or accident and we shouldn’t wait to tell the people we care about that we love them and how much they mean to us. It could be “you” or it could be “me”. You just don’t know when “it’s your time”.
