Looping and Swooping Makes Tying Tennies Easy, but That’s not Really What this Post is About. It’s About Soda.

Some days, it’s hard getting dressed.  Not physically, I guess.  I certainly know how to put on clothes.  I even remember a rhyme I learned in kindergarten about looping and swooping which makes tying my tennis shoes super duper easy.  What makes getting dressed difficult:  knowing as soon as I do, my 17 month old is going to poop all over me, or my 2 year old is going to wipe his runny nose all over me, or my 17-month old is going to fling food all over me, or my 2 year old is going to throw up all over me;  You get the picture.

But every day I do peel off my mommy uniform of sweats and t-shirt, and every day I do brush my teeth, fix my hair, and put on real clothes, and every day I do get the boys up from their nap and dress them too, and it’s all for one reason and one reason only:  a route 44 diet vanilla coke from Sonic.  I’m ashamed to say I’m addicted to the sweet soda.  I am.  If I could drink it all day every day, I would.  If I could eat it, I would.  If I could breathe it, I would.  And it drives my husband crazy.

Me:  “Can we stop by Sonic on the way to the movie?”

Him:  “It’s not really on the way to the movie.”

Me:  “Can we stop by anyway?”

Him:  “We’ll be at least 15 minutes late if we stop by Sonic.”

Me:  “So, is that a yes?”

Him:  “Why don’t you just get a soda at the movie?”

Me:  “Because it’s not a route 44 diet vanilla coke from Sonic.”

It’s David’s fault I’m an addict.  He swigs more soda than anyone I’ve ever met.  Ever.  Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper, Sprite, Root Beer, you name it and he guzzles it.  He can knock back a 2 liter in 5 seconds flat.  I don’t even want to tell you how quickly he can swallow a six pack.  It’s just not right.  It’s just not right either that the kid swallows gum.  He does!  David can not chew gum without swallowing it, but that’s an entirely different post.

Drinking soda is a hobby David and I do together.  When we go to dinner, we drink soda.  When we go to the movie, we drink soda.  When we hang out with friends, we drink soda.

Here’s the thing:  DAVID IS NOT DRINKING SODA ANYMORE!!!  He gave it up last week.  He quit cold turkey right after he decided the bubbly beverage is not good for him.  When he made the grandiose announcement, I thought it would never last.  I mean, David has the will power of a gnat.  But it’s been more than a week and for more than a week, he has not had one single drop.

So now, I feel guilty.  I guess I should stop drinking soda too.  I know it’s not good for me and it’s been something I’ve been meaning to do for quite some time.  I want to set a good example for my boys and since I don’t let them drinking soda, I shouldn’t drink it either.

On the other hand, I don’t want to stop drinking soda.  And that’s that.

Hello BFF, I just want you to know that you are not alone in this ridiculous obsession. A friend of mine also suffers from the same Sonic addiction …..

You’re right…it’s not about tennies. :-) I can’t believe David gave up soda. Loved the blog. I have similar feelings about Diet Coke…I know it’s not good for me and I should give it up but…….
